About Mrs. Johnson
Welcome to 3rd grade! This is my 16th year of teaching third graders, and I am thrilled to be starting a new year of learning. I enjoy teaching and all of the fun we have each day. I believe a positive classroom environment is an important part of every child’s school day.
Previously, my career was as a licensed architect in Illinois and Wisconsin. I hope my love of my previous career and my additional work experience outside of the educational field and classroom can inspire students in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and math.
When my children were born, I made the heartfelt choice to stay home with them while they were young. During this time, I realized how much the joy of learning and teaching would change the direction of my life. I received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Rockford University, and in 2015 and 2010, I was the recipient of a "Visions for Learning" grant from Ecolab. I was also selected to attend the summer session of the Mickelson ExxonMobil Math and Science Teachers Academy in New Jersey.
I look forward to making third grade a positive experience for your child, and I will work to create an environment in which his or her highest potential can be reached.

Mission for the Class
What is my focus in teaching? Our students will need to know how to use problem solving and critical thinking skills during their lifetime. I always try to keep in mind that each child has different needs, and he or she will need a variety of skill sets from his or her teacher.
It is important that the classroom is a place where the children feel welcome, and they have a teacher who is patient, consistent, creative, and who shares their excitement for learning. My goal is to teach students to be life-long learners who have the ability to pursue their dreams with confidence and purpose.
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” ― Aristotle
“The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another.” -- Marva Collins
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.” ― Maria Montessori
